On 12–13 May 2026, the STEAMies partnership met in Guarda, Portugal, for the Learning/Teaching/Training Activity (LTTA), hosted by Agrupamento de Escolas Afonso de Albuquerque. Teachers and partners from Portugal, Greece and France worked together to strengthen skills in STEAM education, citizen science, air and water quality monitoring and environmental action.
The LTTA was designed as a practical training event, supporting teachers in moving from planning to classroom implementation. Sessions focused on the STEAMies pedagogical approach, the open inventory of educational resources, expected results, and preparation of the next project stages.
Hands-on workshops were central. CAAP led a session on microcontrollers for STEAM learning, showing how Arduino or similar platforms can support coding, data reading, experimentation and inquiry-based learning. AEAAG led a workshop on air quality sensors and environmental data, encouraging teachers to explore indicators such as particulate matter, temperature and humidity, while reflecting on data reliability.
A field activity at Polis, near the River Diz, focused on water quality monitoring. Participants explored parameters such as temperature, turbidity, pH and conductivity, experiencing how local water bodies can become living laboratories. A guided walking tour on “Territory as a Learning Space” highlighted links between geology, local heritage and environmental learning.
The second day connected the training outcomes with Work Package 3 and school action plans, DIY tools, student mini-projects and dissemination activities. The LTTA strengthened collaboration, teacher confidence and the commitment to make STEAM education more practical, inclusive and action-oriented.
